Music has always been highly valued by the worshipping community that makes up the people of God at All Hallows. Whether your particular talents are instrumental or vocal, there is plenty for you to take part in.

You can be sure that we would love to hear from you, and indeed, HEAR YOU, if you would like to develop and use your interest and skill in music at All Hallows.

All Hallows’ Church Choir

Our robed choir, currently of about 25 singers, is made up of a junior treble section of boys and girls and an adult section of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Choir practices are held on Thursdays, from 19.15 to 20.30 in church.

The choir usually sings 2 or 3 times each month at the 10.15 Sunday service and at most Sunday evening service (18.30) including two choral evensongs per month. There is no need for every choir member to sing at every service: we normally have between 15 and 20 people. The repertoire is varied, ranging from Tudor anthems to music from the Taizé and Iona traditions, and includes settings of the evening canticles and a variety of modern anthems, songs and hymns.

All Hallows is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. Choristers of all ages are welcome to participate in training schemes and to support regional and national events.

Membership of the choir is open to all, young or old, who wish to ‘sing praises with understanding’. Please do consider joining the choir if you have enjoyed singing in the past, perhaps at school or at another church. Junior singers, boys and girls from Year 3 upwards, are particularly welcome and their parents should, in the first instance, contact Stephen Davies, our director of music. Stephen can be contacted in church most Sundays.

All Hallows Worship Band

All Hallows Worship Band has expanded and flourished in recent years and now has a regular and highly valued place in the monthly cycle of worship. The band normally introduces and leads the worship at the 10.15am service on the second and fourth Sundays of each month as well as some baptism services and occasionally participates in other services.

Membership is open to all ages, singers and instrumentalists, who have a love of making music, together whilst worshiping God. There is no need to be able to read music but a love of singing the Lord’s songs and a readiness to learn new material is required.

Their repertoire includes many contemporary worship songs as well as traditional hymns and songs. Rehearsals are normally held on Tuesday evenings 6.45pm-8pm and there is also a monthly afternoon rehearsal followed by a time of fellowship.

Sound Engineers

The music in All Hallows and, indeed, the whole of our services, is supported by a team of sound engineers who set up microphones to mix and match the instrumental and vocal timbres and project the music around the church, producing a highly professional balance and blend of sound.
